The communities showing up to public meetings are doing something valuable. They're creating a record, applying pressure, and forcing conversations that would otherwise happen entirely behind closed doors. Whether Indiana's political class treats that engagement as a nuisance or as useful input will say a lot about how the next decade of data center expansion plays out.

For developers and operators paying attention: the communities that feel heard tend to be the ones that don't become regulatory liabilities later. Getting genuine community engagement right at the front end is cheaper than fighting organized opposition once a project breaks ground.
