The cost of utility-scale solar has dropped roughly 90% over the past decade globally, and Tanzania's resource quality means projects can be competitive even with the currency and regulatory friction factored in.

Lessons Other Nations Should Steal

Currency risk mitigation deserves to be treated as infrastructure-level policy, not a deal-by-deal negotiation. The countries that will attract the most private clean energy capital over the next decade will be the ones that develop systematic local currency financing mechanisms, not the ones that leave every developer to solve it independently.

Tanzania is still mid-transition β€” the Julius Nyerere project isn't complete, rural electrification rates have improved but remain low, and the regulatory environment continues to evolve. But the arc of progress is real, and the institutional learning that's accumulated over the past decade represents genuine value.
