There's also an infrastructure play buried in this story. Transmission constraints are a key reason certain generation zones have inelastic supply and thus support market power. Investors who identify and finance transmission projects that relieve those constraints are structurally positioned to benefit from the competitive rebalancing that follows.


The Bigger Picture

Power market consolidation is a nationwide phenomenon, but PJM is where it matters most — both because of the grid's size and because PJM's markets set competitive benchmarks that influence policy and market design across the country.
